Chapter eleven
After I drop off my friends, I head back to my home to get ready for tonight. I can't wait for tonight. The hunt from the vamps in the forest.
I'll be lying if I said I'm not afraid. I am afraid. Not only could this be scary but it can be exhilarating and anything can go wrong.
We could get caught and bitten, we could bail out the last second, and it's like once five minutes to when it's time to go in, we can't bail out. Between the two hours and forty-five minutes, we can leave.
I'm also worried that we'll break the rules and wells definitely get sent to them. Only two people made it out alive from them so I hope well be one of them.
I had a quick shower, did my homework, got a bag ready. It includes small snacks, such as granola bars, fruit snacks, small bags of fruit, and a water bottle.
The others will bring a water bottle to pack away in this sling bag. By the time I'm finished getting ready, I get into the car and drive off to gather my friends who are coming.
"Hey, Sabor!" Lennix cheered as he got in.
"Can't wait for tonight, it's going to be fun!"
"I know, Lenny Boy. It's going to be amazing."
"Too bad Sarah couldn't make it."
"I know, but you know how she is. She's already scared enough of the forest as it is, but getting chased by vamps is another thing. We don't need her getting scared, plus she doesn't have any protection."
"I know. Let's just hope she's having a good Halloween."
"When we make it out, we're definitely gonna tell her about it."
"Definitely."
I pull up to Kathrine's home as she waited on the driveway.
"Let's get this show on the road!" She yelled in excitement.
"Yes!"
"Yo Sabe, where do I put this?" She asked holding her water bottle. My sling bag is back there, just place it in there."
"Oh, then can you put mine in there too, please?"
"Sure Lennix."
Not long after, I pulled on Lauren's driveway. She got in and I drove to the diner for a quick dinner. We agreed that we'll go out to diner for a quick dinner then head over to the forest. It's only half past five, so we have at least two and a half hours before we have to get to the forest.
But still enough time to eat and get prepared. There will be a lot of us from the high school that are going to this hunt.
I parked in an open spot. We got out and head inside. Not a lot of people are here since since Halloween. Although the small, old building is decorated in fake cobwebs, pumpkins carved with all sorts of designs sitting in the front.
The inside is decorated with pictures of witches, skeletons sitting in a couple chairs, a tiny pumpkin is sitting in the corner on the counter.
We went up to order and sat in a spot and sat down. We talked about tonight, how far we will go and stick together. Of force one of the rules is saying you have to far in enough into the forest or that's cheating. We have to wonder around the forest until we get lost and try to find our way back.
As long as we stick together and not encounter any vamps, we should be fine. It didn't take long for our food to arrive. We are as much as possible. And we left, heading for the forest.
Once we got to the forest entrance, I parked the car seeing only a couple of students waiting by the entrance. Of course we can go in, but we decided to wait with them. No matter what, as long as we're on their territory, we can get eaten.
For our safety sakes, we stay outside until it's time. We meet up with the kids that are participating.
We waited as more kids began to pile in the group. When everyone that needed to be here, we entered the forest.
No going back now.
As soon as it hit ten, we all entered the forest. With it being pitch black now, some of us used our torches from our phones. The only thing that we could hear is that muffled chatter among us, and the footsteps crunching on the leaves, rocks, and twigs.
Once we knew we were far enough in, some parted their own way. Most of us stayed together for the time being. The four of us stayed near the back but still had some students surrounding us.
I wasn't paying attention when I bumped into the student in front of me stopped. I peer over the bunch of students to see a line of vamps.
They look hungry, their eyes bloody red and their list for hunger is eating them up.
My fight or flight instincts kicked in and I ran for my life the opposite way. I could hear my friends coming up behind me running for safety. As soon as we get out of here, we're safe.
I've seen a lot of horror movies and I know not to look back and keep running until I know I'm safe.
My lungs started burning from the lack of oxygen.
In the distance, I could hear screaming and shouting in the distance back where I came from.
Before I knew it, I went tumbling down a hill. I felt every pain everywhere until I landed on my stomach on flat ground. Looking down on my injuries, I've got scratches all over me. Scanning the scenery, I'm alone.
My friends abandoned me in the dark forest alone, with vampires roaming around, chasing me for their dinner.
Wasting no time, I stood up and continued on, waking this time to catch my breath. I wandered around hoping to find someone, not a vamp, that I could be with.
I heard more screams of terror not recognizing them as my friends, which is a good sign.
At some point in my journey, I stepped in something cold and wet. Flashing my light down, I realized that I stepped in a creek.
Great.
I descended forward onto the other side. Good thing is is that vamps hate water. They start to burn up. The only thing is is they can jump far. So that's great too.
I heard someone whimpering to the right of me. Spinning on my heal, I noticed one of the kids from earlier sitting, holding her knees close to her chest as she whimpers away.
"Hey there," I calmingly say.
She glances up at me and nods. I hold out my hand and she hesitantly takes my hand and I lead her.
"So . . . If your scared, how come you came to this?" I ask to stroke up a conversation. I check the time, only twenty minutes past ten. Only another hour and forty minutes left.
"My friends and I made a bet."
"What kind?"
"That if I didn't ask my crush out to a date to the movies, we would be doing this. So I tried many attempts but never fulfilled my duty. So here we are getting chased by vamps."
"Oof, that's rough."
"Sure is."
We walked what it felt like we're going deeper and deeper into the forest. Something caught my eye. We stopped and I noticed what it is.
A vampire.
We froze in fear as she whimpered beside me.
"Well, well. I've got dinner."
The vamp women who's black with midnight black frizzy hair, licked her lips eyeing both of us like she's and eagle.
"Which one of you little ones want to be my dinner?" She flashed her fangs at us switching her gaze from me to her. As soon as she took a step forward, we bolt the opposite way of each other getting away.
I ran as fast as I could to get away from this vamp. I couldn't hear anything from behind me so I slowed and glance behind me. She's not coming, which means she's after the other girl.
Soon enough I heard a blood curling scream. Must have been from that girl. I checked the time again, ten to eleven. One more hour left technically. Someone ran into me and knocked ya both to the ground.
"Sabe!"
I recognize that voice. "Lauren! Your okay!"
"Yes I am and so are you!"
"I nearly became dinner but the vamp chased after someone else that was with me."
Lauren told me that Kathrine and Lenny were right there until she got separated by the crowd coming after them. She lost me then them. Since, she's been by herself.
"Let's just hope they're okay too."
"Hope so."
"Let's not waste time, let's go." We got up and descended forward.Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
"Do you know how far we are from the pathway?" She asks.
"Does it look like I'm a map?"
"No."
"Didn't think so."
It seemed quiet for a while, until I hear bushes rustling. Turing toward the sound, someone came out with a bottle of liquid.
"Look, it's the kid we saw earlier in the week," Lauren point out.
I squint my eyes then I realize it is!
"Oh my god."
"Run!"
Just as we turned around and about to run, she stopped us.
"Wait, don't run away from me! Please. I want to talk to you."
"We'd love to stay and talk but we've got to go." I pushed Lauren coward and we run. "I can see it! I can see the path!" Lauren shouted for me.
We ran as fast as we could until our feet stepped onto the rock pathway. We caught our breath until some footsteps walk our way.
Turning around, some other kids made it out alive, but not our friends. Lauren and I looked at each other upset.
Where are our friends?
"Should we wait for them?"
I nodded and took a seat on the ground. Lauren took a seat next to me. It felt like forever when they finally come running out a few feet away from us. They pant so hard that they fell over, the cones a vamp on the edge of the forest. I get Lauren's attention then we make our way over.
It makes the vamp recognizable as we got closer.
Keir Vance.
"Why can't a black man have his midnight snack?"
"No Vance."
"Where's Ramose? Isn't he always with you?" I ask butting in their conversation.
"Nah, he's gone to snack on some hot chicks from our school."
"Well we better get going home, we'll see you and Ramose at school," I say.
We left the forest to go home.
