Marco didn’t allow his poor financial situation to have a negative effect on his academic performance, he therefore pursued his studies with vigour and immovable resolution, to come up with a very good grades while his mother was sweating her way through, in order to give him a lift in life.

Marco had one thing in the back of his mind which has been his source of strength, despite how things turned extremely bad for them financially he would soon graduate from the University, secure a lucrative job and live a comfortable life.

Marco’s dream was transformed into reality when he graduated with a first class honors in Geology, he became the first student to ever attain that height in his department, it was indeed a thing of joy and honor to his mother who became psychologically relieved that atleast her innermost desire had materialize.

It was not a rocklicking story to learn that four years after his graduation, Marco was yet to secure a job.

There were hardly any organization and company he had not approached, bit there was hardly anything they could offer him, the best they could offer him was a well seasoned verbal compliments about his college results and how good looking he is.

This trend continously gave him cause to worry and at a point, he became frustrated by the endless job seaech.

Then one day as fate would have it, he was returning from one of his job hunt when he came in contact with one of his childhood friend who left the town over a decade ago.

After they had exchange pleasantries, he decide to narrate his ordeal to him.

“You mean you graduated four years back with a first class and yet you haven’t been able to pick up a job?” Fred asked irritably.

“That is the story of my life Fred, I have tried all I can, there is no where in this town I have not been to with this perfect certificate, yet nothing tangible is happening, I feel so frustrated and I don’t know what else to do” he made a short paise and then continue talking, “.. by the way what are you doing in the big city of Accra?”

“I work as a dispatch rider with a courier company, you know I left this town ten years ago with just my high school certificate, that is what Iam living on and I have managed to secure a studio apartment, anyways before we talk at length, let’s us go to a nearby restaurant and get ourselves something cold to drink and relax”

As they strolled majestically to the shop close by, Marco could not stop taking a glance at his friend, even though he was just some few months older than he was, Fred looked very robust and smartly dressed in a pair of jeans trouser, t-shirt and a pair of canvas, Fred not as educated as he was, had atleast something to show for it.

What was the essence of him being so educated and get going about like a pauper?

Marco took another look at himself and discovered that everything he was having on if valued would not be able to buy the canvas his friend was putting on.

“So Marco….” His long lasting reverie was interrupted by Fred’s voice, “… Don’t you think it’s high time you do something about that?” He said, after sipping from the glass of cold beer.

“What else should I do?” Replied Marco.

“Like moving over to Accra, and we all know accra is a huge city”.

“Well that sounds like a good idea but where do I start from? I don’t even have money for my transportation”. Marco frowned.

“Come on brother, that should not be a problem for you, after all Iam the one inviting you, I can provide you the money, all you need do us take my address with you to the city, show it to anybody at the bus terminal and they surely will dirext you” Fred said, bringing out his wallet.
