Chapter 54 Promise
“What are you doing here this late?”
Anne looks at me a bit disoriented. I sighed and ask her to come inside the house because I assume that this will be a long talk. I don’t need to ask her if she’s drunk because it’s quite obvious. She’s really affected by Liam.
Liam told me that Anne is acting like this because of her insecurities but I beg to disagree. Anne is not yet over him. I am so sure about that. She will not ruin her life if it’s only for revenge. Sometimes people want revenge not because they want to get even, but because they haven’t moved on.
I ask our maid to prepare tea and a light snack for me and Anne as we went to the lounge area.
“Are you really going with Liam tomorrow to the US?” She asked as soon as the maid left.
I nodded. “Yes… for business.”
“Liar!” She accused me which I had already expected.
I act confused. “What are you saying? Is there another reason for Liam to come with me to the US?”
She glared at me. If looks can kill, I’ll be dead by now. “People are talking about your sudden closeness with Liam. Even his family-”
My forehead creased and I cut her off. “You met his family?” I asked a bit concerned.
She avoided my gaze and lower her head. “I met them by chance. I was about to went out of the restaurant where my meeting with some client was held when I bump into Liam’s mom and auntie.”
“And then?” I asked curiously.
“They told me that you and Liam are getting close. They also told me about your business trip with him. His family obviously likes you. Liam’s mom did not hide that fact. As per them because of you, Liam will surely get the promotion that he deserves and that a girl like you is perfect for her son.” Anne stuttered in the latter part.
I feel sorry for Anne. She did nothing to deserve that kind of treatment and insult from them. And I want to apologize in advance because I know that she will get hurt in the coming days as Liam and I start with our plan. But I’ll assure her that all the hurt will be worth it.
“I agree that after our trip to the US, Liam will surely get the promotion that he is aiming for now. But I disagree with the latter part. I’m only perfect for Andrew.” I said.
“Liar!” She said while she was wiping her tears. “You want all the attention on you! You want all the guys for yourself! You’re so selfish!”
“Why are you so affected by me and Liam?” I asked, ignoring her remarks.
“Because you are two-timing them! Andrew doesn’t deserve it and he doesn’t deserve you!” She said screaming.
If she said this before, I might have slapped her face now. But I know better now. “Are you sure you are concerned about Andrew and not Liam?”
Anne’s eyes widen, she was caught off guard by my question. “Why will I care about that guy?! He’s nothing to me now!”
“Are you sure about that? So I can have him for myself?” I asked to provoke her.
She looks at me intently. “You want Liam for yourself?” She asked quietly.
I shrugged. “I’m just asking you.”
“How dare you do this to Andrew?! You are two-timing them!”
I rolled my eyes. “Can you stop using Andrew here? I’m not dumb okay?! You obviously have a thing with Liam and you are just using Andrew as your excuse to confirm my relationship with Liam. You are not this affected when Lieo was still in the picture.”
Anne looked dumbfounded. “I’m not using Andrew okay?! I’m just concerned about him because he doesn’t deserve to be cheated on!”
I’m starting to get irritated. I want her to realize what she truly feels. She was too blinded by the pain and hatred but I don’t blame her for feeling that way. She has every right to feel that.
I sighed aloud. “So it’s okay with you if I broke up with Andrew and be with Liam is that it?!” I challenged her.
She looks uneasy. I smirked. I got you!
“I’m just kidding. I will never break up with Andrew. Liam and I are just business partners. We don’t even consider ourselves friends. Stop overthinking. I’m not cheating on Andrew, and I had no plans to do that to him.” I said to assure her.
“Why is it easy for you to love anyone you like? And why is it hard for me to have that?!” She suddenly asked.
I was caught off guard by her question. I face her and look at her intently. “It was not ALWAYS easy. I also complained about that before. Remember Jester, my first love? We both love each other but we’re not aware of it. Many things have happened. When we finally confessed our feelings to each other, we were both committed to someone. Both of us have many regrets.”
“How were you able to accept or move on from that?” She asked.
I smiled at her but it didn’t reach my eyes. “I just accepted the fact that we are not meant for each other. Everything that happened led us to where we are really meant for.”
“Not meant for each other…” Anne whispered.
I knew why she said that. I held her hand and said. “But that might not the case for you and Liam. Maybe you guys need to wait for the right time.”
We were both silent for minutes. I can see that Anne is trying to absorb everything that we have discussed. I hope that I was able to help her clear her mind and help her to realize what she truly feels.
“It’s already late Anne. I have an early flight tomorrow.” I said.
“You look tired. Didn’t have enough sleep?”
I rolled my eyes. “You bet! Thanks to your girl.”
Liam and I were already on the plane. I was almost late because of the conversation I had with Anne last night. Good thing the flight was delayed.
“Why? What happened?” He asked with full concern.
I told him everything that happened last night. I did not leave anything, especially about his family’s interaction with Anne.
“Why are your family so mean?! They shouldn’t have said that to her! They’ve already done so much to make Anne’s life miserable!” I rant at him. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
“I know and Anne doesn’t deserve all the insults that she got from them. I have no plans of defending them. I feel so ashamed of all the things they said and did to her.” He said in a low voice.
I can see clearly the love that Liam has for Anne. I’m glad that despite everything that happened, he never gave up on her.
“Can you promise that this time you will protect her?”
He looks at me intently. “I promised. That’s why I need this promotion to be able to do that. I will make sure that Anne will rise again and she will have her dreams come through without any obstacle. I will face those obstacles before it reaches her.”
I smile as I am content with his answer.
