Her Precious Baby

Chapter 45

Chapter 45

Joseline walked over and grabbed her sister’s arm. “Angeline, are you all right?” she asked concernedly. “How did you fall into the water? That lifeguard is so irresponsible.”

To her surprise, Angeline pulled away and replied curtly, “Don’t I have you to thank for that?”

Looking incredibly aggrieved, Joseline stared back with puppy dog eyes. “How could you say that? I’d never—” NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.

“Quit pretending, Ms. Sorelle. No one else is around, so go on and get to the point,” Angeline interrupted as she eyed her sister with open disdain. One thing was for sure—she was sick of her sister’s friendly façade.

Since Angeline had seen through her, Joseline knew there was no longer a need to keep up her pretense. With an evil glint in her eye, she promptly leaned in and whispered, “I’m marrying Hanson soon, Angeline. You’d better not ruin things for me.”

Angeline looked her in the eye and scoffed. “My, my, you’ve thought this plan out well, haven’t you? If you hadn’t gotten me drunk back then and pushed me into a stranger’s bed, I reckon Hanson and I would’ve been married by now.”

Upon hearing that, Joseline stumbled backward in shock.

Oh, sh*t! Angeline knows the truth about that incident!

After looking around frantically and realizing there weren’t any surveillance cameras in the room, she finally calmed herself down.

“S-Stop spouting nonsense,” Joseline said through gritted teeth. “I wasn’t the one who set you up all those years ago.”

As she continued staring at her sister, Angeline suddenly recalled the latter saying that her child was still alive. Naturally, that piqued her curiosity.

“Fine. Let’s not talk about that for now. What I want to know is what happened to my child.”

Joseline’s air of superiority returned as she gave an arrogant sneer. “I didn’t lie to you. Your child is really still alive!”

Angeline froze immediately, feeling as though someone had doused her with cold water.

“Tell me everything you know,” she demanded, trying desperately to calm herself down by biting her lip and pinching her thigh.

Joseline, on the other hand, was secretly delighted to see her sister in such a panic. Without further ado, she whipped out her phone and began scrolling through her videos. “Speaking of which, you really ought to thank me. That man had intended to get rid of the baby, but I managed to save her and sent her to the orphanage.”

Angeline still wasn’t entirely convinced, but after watching the video, all her doubts disappeared in a flash.

The hospital in the video was where she had delivered her baby, and ward 504, in particular, was where she had stayed.

In the video, a nurse walked out of the ward carrying a newborn and looked around shiftily. When she realized there wasn’t anyone else around, she tightened the blanket around the baby and ran off.

Angeline paused the video right at that moment and zoomed in on the baby’s blanket. After scrutinizing it for a while, she was so overcome with emotions that she couldn’t stop shaking.

Yes! That’s my child!

As it turned out, she had spent a month before her due date making a blanket for her baby. She had even sewn a sunflower on one of the corners, hoping the little one would grow up full of joy and optimism.

“O-Orphanage…” Angeline stammered before throwing her towel away and preparing to rush off in search of her child.

Before she could venture far, however, Joseline’s cold, unfeeling voice rang out. “Do you honestly think the child is still there?”

Stunned, Angeline stopped in her tracks and turned around robotically. “What do you mean?”

“The kid only stayed at the orphanage until she was three years old. She went missing after that,” Joseline replied as she approached her sister, a wicked glint in her eye.

Just like that, Angeline’s flame of hope was extinguished yet again. She stood rooted to the spot, staring blankly at Joseline.

“I’ve checked with the orphanage before, and the director gave me a photo of the woman who kidnapped the child,” the latter said as she dug out a photo of a middle-aged lady and handed it to Angeline. “If you want to know the girl’s current whereabouts, I suggest you stay far away from Hanson and stop eyeing the company’s shares!”

Upon hearing her sister’s threat, Angeline finally came to her senses. Ah, so that’s the real reason she told me about my baby!

Seeing how smug Joseline was, Angeline’s face grew cold and stern. “Do you think I’ll believe you just because of a few words and photos?”

“What do you mean?”

“Unless you find and bring my child to me, I won’t stop fighting for Sorelle Group’s shares,” Angeline replied calmly. “As for your wedding with Hanson… Who knows if it will go ahead as planned?”

Joseline flinched.

D*mn it. Not only have I not managed to get my threat across, but I’ve also given my leverage away!

Feeling defeated and humiliated, she glared at her sister. “Angeline Sorelle, you b*tch!”

Instead of replying, Angeline merely scoffed and walked away.

Alas, she had only just opened the door when she saw Hanson approaching with a set of clean clothes. Even though he was frowning, his gaze had softened quite a bit. “Where are you going?”

Since her thoughts were still a tangled mess, Angeline was in no mood to deal with Hanson or Joseline. “If you’re so free, Mr. Yiurk, I suggest you keep an eye on your fiancée,” she said coldly.

With that, she hurriedly stepped past Hanson and left the lounge, leaving the man fuming after her.

As clever and sharp-witted as he was, he couldn’t help but feel like Angeline had played him for a fool.

Meanwhile, Angeline had made her way to the lobby when she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks, looking somewhat helpless.

Oh, gosh, what have Joseline’s words done to me? How am I supposed to find my child with just a photo? No. I should deal with what I have on hand first.

Having made up her mind, Angeline instructed Nancy to bring her a set of clothes before assuring the film crew that she was fit to continue filming.

At that moment, however, Joseline’s voice rang out.

“Since you can’t swim and are at risk of drowning, I doubt this variety show is for you. Mr. Anderson, why don’t you let Ms. Sorelle head home to rest?”

Angeline’s face fell instantly. She could feel everyone’s mocking gazes and hear them speaking in hushed tones.

Lester, too, seemed somewhat awkward as he pondered the situation.

Eventually, he gave in, not wanting to offend the future Mrs. Yiurk. “Ms. Sorelle, I’m afraid we have to ask you to—”

However, before Lester could finish his sentence, his assistant hastily walked up to whisper in his ear and showed him something on the phone.

Lester frowned as he took a look, but it wasn’t long before he began chuckling.

“Oh dear, Ms. Sorelle, why didn’t you tell me about your relationship with Mr. Golding?” he asked politely. “What an ignorant fool I’ve been!”

Angeline couldn’t help but furrow her brows in confusion. Huh? What’s with his sudden change in attitude? And what relationship do I have with Evander?
