Chapter 38
Elara
‘Why did you do that?’ I scoff. A slither of jealousy rushed through me. It’s the past, I know, but I can’t help it.
‘She seduced me. I didn’t know she belonged to another man. Honestly, I didn’t care,’ he says. So, the fiancé seduced Zuriel because he was wealthier. What a despicable woman. I snarl.
‘So, you are worried that he’s close to me to exact revenge?’
He avoids my gaze after my question. I was right.
‘You owe Rob an apology,’
‘I owe him nothing. His woman was ambitious. She would have done that with another man sooner or later,’ he growled. All content is © N0velDrama.Org.
‘I meant you owe him an apology for hurting him earlier, Zuriel,’
‘I’m sorry,’ he says.
‘Not to me, but to Rob,’
‘I owe you an apology, too, little Princess. My behavior was unhinged. You were in pain because of your mate’s betrayal, but I misinterpreted it,’ his tone is sincere. I don’t want to forgive him yet, so I just nod,
‘Thank you,’ I say and enter the shower. Zuriel watches in stunned silence.
I feel relaxed after the cold shower. Zuriel watched me the entire time, making me red in embarrassment, but I didn’t cut my shower short.
After I leave the shower. Zuriel follows me to the closet. Why is he behaving like a puppy now?
‘May I help you,’ I ask, grabbing a sweater.
‘Why are you all dressed up?’ he asks, his eyebrows creasing.
‘Going to the clinic to see Rob,’ I answer.
‘No, you’re not,’
‘You injured him because of me. It’s a duty to see how he is,’ I snap and wear my sneakers. He is silent. He grabs my arm and cups my face. Our faces are close to each other,
‘Stay here with me,’ his voice is sexy. Is he using sex for me not to go to the clinic?
‘I don’t want to stay here with you,’ I push him off me and leave the closet. I rushed down the elevator and to the front desk. I asked for a driver. He comes within five minutes, and I head to the local clinic. Once I got there, I was directed to Rob’s room. He smiles when I enter.
‘Elara, you are here,’ his eyes lit up. I place the flower I got on the bedside table.
‘How do you feel?’
‘I’m alright. The doctor thinks I’m concussed. He asked me to stay a few hours,’ he informs me. He did take a fall to the head hard. I sit by the visitor’s chair,
‘I’m sorry about my husband’s behavior earlier,’ I apologize. He nods,
‘He loves you,’ he says. I go into silence. I scoff and shake my head. Zuriel enjoyed fucking me, dominating me, and hated the idea of another man touching me, but that didn’t mean he loved me.
I don’t tell Rob that.
‘Zuriel told me about your fiancé,’ I changed the topic. His eyes close momentarily, and a sigh escapes his lips,
‘It’s fucking embarrassing.’
‘No, it’s not. You’re not at fault here,’ I say gently, holding his hand.
‘The truth is neither is your husband. However, it’s just easier to blame the person I see,’ he admits. He tries to sit upright with a grunt. I help him up,
‘I got closer to you earlier on purpose. I wanted him to feel some pain… Even just a resemblance of it,’ he confessed. A gasp left my mouth. I should have known when Zuriel told me about what happened. However, I can’t hold anything against Rob. It was so brave of him to confess.
‘He could have killed you,’ I whisper.
‘Well, I did fly too close to the sun,’ he chuckled, his voice a raspy grunt,
‘Be thankful you didn’t burn your wings, Icarus,’ I muttered.
‘Yeah, but it was a close call,’
‘Rob, I didn’t know you knew about our real identity,’ I told him. He frowns.
‘That you are werewolves?’
‘Yes,’
‘I do. My mom is a werewolf. So, I’m halfbreed. That’s why I’m still breathing,’ he informs me. I can’t believe it. Halfbreeds were rare, most of them didn’t shift like we did, but they kept some abilities. They were quick, strong, and healed fast, too, but they were nowhere near an average wolf’s abilities.
We discussed more about the matter. I stayed in the clinic with him until he was discharged. Rob and I walked together to the resort. He was such a lovely guy.
I didn’t talk to my husband when I got to the suite. He was by the bar, drinking when I entered.
‘Flowers!’ Ara chimes. I turn my head towards the bed to see the white peonies carefully placed. I don’t touch them. I sit on the edge of the bed, brooding.
There is a knock on the door, and I stand up to get it. Two servants walk in with a cart of food. They quickly place the golden tray on the table and leave. They sensed the tension swirling in the room.
I avoid the food, but my stomach growls. I haven’t eaten in hours. My eyes meet Zuriel’s. His gaze is still soft like when I left, yet I can’t decipher his emotions. Not wanting to punish my stomach any longer, I open the tray. My mouth watered at the delicious-looking lobster pasta with cream sauce. It was my favorite food in the world.
How? How was this in front of me?
