Chapter 44
Chapter 44
What did Skyler mean by this?
She clearly already knew that Sydney was pregnant, but she still let the nanny give her medicine. Did
they just see women as baby-making machines?
As long as they can have kids, nothing else mattered?
Celeste pursed her lips and said, “You know that Liam and I are about to get a divorce. There’s really
no need for me to take this medicine anymore.”
“Ma’am, small conflicts in mamed life are inevitable. Don’t get a divorce just because of a fight, it’ll hurt
the foundation of your feelings. If he doesn’t care about you, he wouldn’t have left immediately after
receiving the phone call last night. Besides, no couple, who are about to divorce, still shares a bed?”
Celeste didn’t say anything. How was she supposed to tell the nanny that they just slept in the same
bed last night and nothing happened?
“The lady said this medicine can increase the chances of getting pregnant. Once you’re pregnant and
there’s a baby in the house, everything will get better.”
Celeste couldn’t count how many times she had heard this over the years.
At first, she thought that she and Liam didn’t have much emotional foundation when they got married,
so if they had a child sooner. there would be more bonds between them, and their connection would
naturally become deeper
But it was all her imagination. Liam never intended to have a child with her. She gradually realized that
children should not be tools for her to tie Liam down.
A child is a new life, and they should be born out of their parents’ expectations, not as a tool to maintain
a marriage
She didn’t want to have children with Liam anymore, and her worth was not just about having children.
“Martha, we’re not planning to have children now, so this medicine is useless.”
“Ma’am, the lady told me to make sure you drink it. It’s for your own good. If you don’t drink it, shell
cause trouble for me. I can’t lose this job, my son just started college this year.”
The nanny’s eyes were teary with urgency.
Skyler was so persistent about this that it was frightening. She could even fire someone over drinking
medicine? That was just ridiculous!
Facing the anxious nanny, Celeste’s heart softened. Although she didn’t want to drink it, she took the
bowl of medicine.
Just as Celeste was about to drink the medicine, Liam’s voice came from behind, “Martha, please clean
up the study. I accidentally spilled water on the table just now, and many books are wet”
Celeste hadn’t drunk the medicine yet, and Martha hesitated, “Sir, I’ll go later…”
“Those books are important,” Liam said calmly. “Thank you”
Without any room for refusal, she didn’t hesitate any further, answered, and went to the study.
Celeste glanced at Liam.
This guy, he hadn’t left yet. What bad luck!
Just as she was about to drink the medicine and leave, she heard him say, “Celeste, do you really want
to get pregnant? Should I be glad I didn’t touch you last night?”
Celeste’s face darkened, “Liam, are you nuts? Who wants to get pregnant?”
Liam glanced at the bowl of medicine in her hand, “Then what are you drinking this for? Not very
convincing”
Celeste gritted her teeth, “You just reminded me, I’m healthy, and as long as I sleep with a normal man,
I can get pregnant. It’s you who needs to work on yourself!” She shoved the medicine into his hand,
“Have it yourself!”
With that, she slammed the door and left.
Liam looked down at the soup in his hand.
By the time the nanny finished cleaning and came out, Liam had already left.
The bowl of medicine on the coffee table was empty. The nanny took out her phone, snapped a photo,
and sent it.
When Celeste arrived at the hotel, she was a few minutes late.
16:30
Trisha had been waiting for her and complained quietly as soon as they met, “There are so many
people, I thought we were early by coming an hour ahead of time, but we’re actually among the last! It’s
not easy to be a small actress. Everyone’s fighting over this one role.”
Celeste looked down the hallway and saw that there were about twenty or thirty people standing there. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Some came by themselves, some accompanied by agents. With that many people, she had almost
twenty competitors.
Everyone was quietly preparing, and without exception, these actresses were all very beautiful.
Celeste’s confidence in her looks suddenly wavered.
She had been spoiled by Liam for too long, thinking that with a pretty face, she could really dominate
the entertainment industry. In reality, there were too many good-looking people in this circle. Beauty
was actually the most common thing here.
To stand out among these people with professional acting experience, she could only rely on
professional abilities. Realizing this, Celeste couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Trisha noticed this and whispered comfortingly, “Don’t be too nervous, just stay calm and perform well.
Don’t think too much, as long as we get through the play smoothly, that’s enough.”
Celeste calmed down a bit and whispered, “I’ll try my best.”
Not long after, the door to the room opened, and one by one, the actresses were called in for the
audition. The atmosphere instantly tensed up.
There were sixteen actresses auditioning, and with eight minutes per person, it would take more than
two hours.
But in reality, each person’s audition time was shorter than eight minutes.
Celeste was on edge, ready to be called at any moment, but until there were only two people left
outside, she still hadn’t heard her name. After the last actress left, she was the only one left in the
room. But even after waiting for a long time, no one came out to call
her.
Something seemed off.
Trisha also began to feel nervous, “Let’s wait a bit longer. They might be busy with something else.”
As she said this, she didn’t quite believe it herself.
A few more minutes passed, and the door opened again. The two of them tensed up, but it was the
woman in charge who came out to go downstairs, not to call names for the audition.
Trisha quickly stood up and caught up with her, “Hello, why aren’t you continuing the audition? Is there
a problem?”
The woman glanced at her and said indifferently, “It’s done.”
Trisha was dumbfounded for a moment, “Are you joking? My friend hasn’t been called yet.”
