Sebastian's POV
I never imagined things would take such an unexpected turn. Just a few short sentences. made me filled with confusion and worry.
Although I could guess why Debra had kept this from me until now, the news was so shocking that it was enough for me to have kept her in the Northern Realm for some time recently.
And now I understood why Melissa had been so unsettled after reading that letter. If I had only been there with her at the time, to witness it together... maybe I could have prevented her distress.
Debra seemed pleased by the turmoil in my heart, watching my reaction with a sense of satisfaction. She took a seat across from me, then began recounting an unknown story.
"I'll start with the old Alpha," she began, her voice laced with bitterness. "Everything ties back to Grace Duff-she's nothing but a bitch."
The contempt in Debra's voice was palpable. It was clear she had looked down on this
woman.
"Grace was a woman your father met while traveling. They were merely acquaintances at first, but she soon became infatuated with him. However, at that time, your father had already married your mother to secure his Alpha position. What your mother didn't expect was that after a few wars, Grace was brought back to the North as a trophy. She was beautiful, tall, and intelligent. That night, your father and she naturally became involved. Out of all his lovers, Grace was the one your father favored the most. Your mother begged him multiple times to send her away, but he refused. Instead, he built a tower on the outer suburbs just to meet with her. That's why your mother eventually fell into a deep depression."
The strange love affairs and marriages of the previous generation were truly eye-opening for me. I never expected that my father, who was so strict and proper in front of me, would have lovers other than Debra.
Debra's eyes darkened as she continued. "I also despise that woman, because it was her who stole your father away from me. Grace Duff didn't think this matter had anything to do with her, and even felt that not taking Luna's position from me was already an act of kindness on her part. She didn't agree with your father taking more women into his bed, thinking it was the best way to eliminate competition. That bitch believed everyone loved. her, but the truth is, she was just another sacrifice of your father's. So, when your father decided to rid himself of her, he sent her back to her homeland while she was pregnant."
I could tell that Debra was deliberately omitting certain crucial details, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Clearly, she had selective memory, choosing only to speak about the things she could cope
with.

Yet, this was precisely why I had resolutely kept my distance from the women of the harem.
Now, it seemed Debra was also willing to admit that my father's expansion of his relationships had been a mistake. But I knew better than to mention the point now. Silence was more valuable now than any words could be.
"At that time, your father fell in love with another woman," Debra continued. "But Grace Duff ruthlessly killed her, right in the western tower of the North Castle. And that was the end of her. She was sent away. Your father may not have even known she was pregnant." Her tone seemed genuinely sincere, as though she truly believed every word she was saying.
"When she came to me, begging for my help, I knew that helping her would have only dragged me into an unnecessary mess. So, I allowed your father to be rid of her. But what made her most desperate was that at the time of their separation, your father, our old Alpha, admitted personally that among all his women, he had only truly loved your mother. Ha ha ha ha! Talking about this also makes me very upset!"
Debra paused, her voice thick with emotion as she lowered her head. I believed that she had once truly loved my father.
"Grace Duff violated the laws of the Northern Realm, yet my father did not execute her. Isn't that already showing leniency towards her? Normally, given father's character, that WOME
would definitely have faced trial, regardless of whether she was a war prize or my father's lover. But out of emotional reasons, father helped her cover up the matter. No one knows about this."
I never expected my father to do such a thing as favoritism and corruption.
"Exactly. The woman who was killed was a relative of the Kauffman family from the Meadow Pack. Fortunately, they've always been a calm and kind bunch. Otherwise, they would've hated your father for what happened. We just hope Elliott Kauffman doesn't find out, because if he believes his aunt was brought in as a slave and then killed without cause... we can't predict how he'll react. That's why we've always been suspicious of Melissa's true intentions," Debra continued, her tone sharp and calculating.
Her logic made sense. The Meadow Pack had never been willing to get involved in these. kinds of things, so I didn't know if Elliott Kauffman was aware of these matters. Even if he were to find out, we couldn't predict to what extent his attitude towards me and Atrias would change.
"The truth is, we have many enemies in the North. That's why we need to keep training our soldiers so we can have a strong ability to defend against external threats. I'm not saying this to make things easier for Geraint or Vince; I just want you to understand the real situation the Northern Realm face." she added, her voice softer but still serious.
As I listened to her words, I was somewhat surprised. I had originally regarded this woman. as just a dramatic and mad woman, but now I could see she had learned much during my father's reign,
"As for Melissa's poisoning, I suspect Edgar Elder is involved. His family has been 83.6%

unusually quiet lately. The poison he used is unknown, but it gradually weakens one's spirit, ultimately leading to dementia." Debra took a deep breath, aware that bringing up this matter at this time was risky.
Indeed, she began to observe my facial expression. I did indeed have the intention to kill Elder Edgar in my heart. Upon returning, I would examine Melissa's blood to see if there was anything unusual. If it had crossed my red line, then it might have been time to replace that old man in his position.
"Do you have any evidence?" I asked, my voice low and steady, though a storm was building inside me.
After pondering for a moment, she nodded and handed me a sealed document.
"This is what I ved carlier, and I hope one day Alpha will find it useful," she said. "I don't know what Winnie Harold will say, but no matter what, I hope you'll be more cautious with your brothers' matters."
"I understand," I replied, sensing that Debra was clearly signaling her allegiance to me. It felt strangely reassuring.
"Since there's nothing else, I'll take my leave. You can handle the rest as you see fit."
Now that I knew Atrias and I shared a blood relationship, I could understand the reasons behind his actions against me.
"I'll make sure Vince gets some extra attention. He seems to have some energy now, so it's the perfect time for him to train out in the wilderness."
At my words, Debra's expression didn't soften much, but she nodded.
"I understand. Melissa likes steak and fresh fruit. She also enjoys adding fish chunks to her salads. I'll have the doctor and the nutritionist pay closer attention to her. Lately, many people have noticed she's lost a lot of weight."
At her words, I thanked her briefly before leaving.
Though I knew her care for Melissa was likely motivated by other intentions, I still respected the fact that she was considering Melissa's well-being.
