The Apple of My Eye

Chapter 2142 What Happened To Clark

Chapter 2142 What Happened To Clark

Clark saw Melissa and greeted her immediately, "Grandma, I missed you so much!"

Melissa was so happy to have Clark back. She stepped forward and held Clark in her arms. "Clark, my

sweetheart! You're finally back. Are you okay? My poor boy. You must have suffered a lot."

Melissa checked if Clark had any injuries, scanning the young boy from head to toe. She repeatedly

asked if Clark was fine or if anything was feeling off.

Clark couldn't help but laugh at his grandmother's antics. He answered, "Grandma, I'm fine. I pretended

to be sick to fool the kidnappers. I escaped once they were distracted."

Despite trying to sound as carefree as possible, Clark had no idea how he had been saved. He didn't

know how he got back to his mother. He thought his scheme must have worked out, which made him

feel proud.

Upon hearing this, Melissa was taken aback. "My brave boy, don't do it again! It's too risky to fool the

bad guys! If they had found out you were fooling them they might have done something bad to you.

And your father said you had a fever. Was this a part of your scheme?"

"Grandma, I got wet from the rain on purpose, so I..."

"Don't do that again. I was so worried about you." Melissa held Clark tightly. Overcome with emotions,

her eyes brimmed with tears.

Sheryl's eyes welled up with tears as she watched the scene unfold.

"Mom, why did you come here so early? I was planning to tell you about it later," Sheryl said as Melissa

tried to control herself.

Melissa's hand caressed Clark's cheeks. "How could I fall asleep? I had nightmares all night. Oh, forget

it. What's important is that Clark is back and safe. By the way, how did you find Clark? Charles didn't

say anything on the phone.

"It's a long story, Mom. I'll tell you later," Sheryl said.

Placated, Melissa remembered she had brought breakfast with her. She opened the cover of the lunch

box, and the smell of chicken porridge filled the room.

Sheryl helped Melissa put all the dishes on the bedside table, filling two bowls with food. One for

herself and one for Clark.

Sheryl used a scoop to stir the porridge, cooling it down before handing it over to her son.

After the porridge had cooled down, Sheryl started to feed Clark. But before she could continue,

Melissa stopped her and offered to do it. "Let me feed Clark. Eat your own."

Sheryl nodded.

Before Melissa could resume feeding Clark, the young boy gasped. "Ouch! My head!"

Sheryl was startled and turned to look at her son.

Clark fell back on the bed, rolling with his head buried in his hands as if he was in extreme pain.

Scared, Melissa put the spoon down and hurried to help Clark up.

But as soon as Melissa touched Clark, he pushed her away. "Don't touch me! Your touch feels painful."

The two were shocked. What had just happened?

Although overcome with anxiety, Sheryl tried to sit still and observe Clark.

"Clark, tell me what's going on? Which part hurts?" Sheryl asked, concern lacing her voice.

Meanwhile, Clark was rolling on the bed, clearly in pain.

Seeing her son in pain, clutched Sheryl's heart in a vice grip. She couldn't just stand there while her

son suffered. Rushing out, she hastily called a doctor.

As Sheryl turned to call the hospital staff, Melissa clutched at her arm. Frantic with worry, she asked,

"Sheryl, what should we do?"

"Mom, I'm going to call the doctor. Stay here and look after him," Sheryl said. She hastily turned and

left the room.

Almost missing Sheryl, Charles came in, followed by a few doctors and nurses.

"What's wrong with Clark?" Charles asked anxiously as he held Sheryl in his arms.

Sheryl pulled herself together to answer, "I wanted to call the doctor. Clark said he felt pain all over his

body."

Charles became serious. He quickly turned around and asked the medical staff outside the door,

"Director Liu, please do a thorough checkup at once!"

The leading doctor nodded before he motioned for the staff to follow him inside.

Several nurses came over and started checking Clark's vitals, drawing blood to run tests. The little

boy's body had started to shake.

Clark's body was resisting the doctor. He kept writhing in pain like a mad dog losing its mind. His small

body struggled desperately. All the people around him started to get more worried.

Hearing the painful moaning coming out of her son's mouth, Sheryl couldn't help but burst into tears.

She leaned against Charles' shoulder and sobbed.

Charles held her in his arms, but he was unable to say anything to comfort her.

Now he believed what Rob had said. The vicious man had indeed poisoned Clark. And now it seemed

that the poison was working in his son's delicate body.

Director Liu finished all the tests on Clark, his face serious. He looked at Charles and said, "This child

seems to have been poisoned by some drug. We still need to do some tests to confirm. Meanwhile,

we'll give him a sedative to calm him down."

"Okay, please do," Charles said.

Sheryl started to tremble, gripping Charles' hand tightly.

Never in her wildest dreams did Sheryl expect to see her son go through something as horrible as this.

If she could, she would take all the pain in Clark's body and suffer for him.

Clark stopped struggling after Director Liu sedated him. His body had stopped shaking as he finally

calmed down.

Melissa, scared out of her wits, covered her mouth in horror and asked, "Doctor, what's wrong with my

grandson?"

"Madam, we haven't confirmed yet. We need to run more tests on him," Director Liu explained.

Sheryl watched her son intently. Seeing the pain on Clark's face fade away, she started breathing

easier.

It was the scariest thing Sheryl ever had to go through. Not knowing what was happening to her son,

clawed through her insides, anxiety eating her up.

"Charles, is Clark..."

Charles gripped Sheryl's hand to comfort her. "I have an idea about what happened. I'll tell you later.

Let me just check on the tests they're running on Clark." Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

Although Sheryl was worried about Clark, she had no choice but to follow Charles. She nodded her

head and said gently, "Ask the doctor not to let our boy feel too much pain."

"I will," Charles agreed and followed the medical workers, as they wheeled his son out.

Silence ensued in the ward. As fear mellowed down in her system, Melissa grabbed Sheryl's hand.

"What happened to Clark just now?" Melissa couldn't stop worrying.

As much as she wanted to assure Melissa that everything was fine, Sheryl also didn't know what was

happening with Clark. The most urgent thing was to find out the cause of Clark's pain and give him the

correct treatment as soon as possible.

She thought Clark had just had a normal fever. But from Charles and the doctor's reaction, it seemed

that they already had an idea of what was going wrong with Clark.

'What did they know?' Sheryl asked herself, clueless.

She looked at Melissa but didn't know what to say.

She had a vague feeling that Clark's symptoms must have something to do with the kidnapping. There

was a niggling sense in her mind that the kidnapper must have done something to Clark.
