The Mafia Bride (Katrina and Silas)

Chapter 115

Katrina’s POV

I could hear the sound of footsteps coming closer, and my heart jumped in fear. I didn’t know where we were and just how many of Ethan’s men were around.

The footsteps echoed and goosebumps rose on my arm.

It was bad that I didn’t know if they were friend or foc, but I didn’t have time to figure it out.

My focus was on Silas, His breathing was slowing, his body too still in my lap. I couldn’t leave him here to save myself. I would hate myself if anything were to happen to him because of my selfishness.

“Stay with me,” I whispered again to him, my voice trembling.

I hurriedly wiped off the teardrops that slid down my face, staining my face with blood in the process.

The bleeding had stopped and I was happy about that, but I was afraid that the bullet had nicked an important organ.

What if he lost too much blood? What if he died I could have gone out there to seek help but I hesitated.

What if… what if… what if…

These questions were on repeat in my mind and I was afraid I didn’t have an answer.

The footsteps stopped, and I raised my head to see a group of men standing in the doorway. They all had their eyes on Silas who was still on my lap.

Relief flooded me for a split second–until I realized they weren’t Silas’s men.

Fuck. We were doomed. Each of the men seemed to be armed, and they weren’t here to protect us.

Their eyes were filled with such hostility it sent shivers down my spine.

I tightened my grip on Silas, trying to shield him. It did little to protect him from their aim, but I had to do something.

“Stay back!” I snapped, though my voice wavered. My eyes darted to the gun which lay on the floor and at that moment I wished I had picked it up.

It was too far for me to grab now. If I darted for it, my body would be riddled with bullets before I got

My chest heaved and my body shook, but I wouldn’t let them take him.

They’d have to kill me to do that.

close.

The frontman, dressed in black with a scar running down his cheek, smirked. “You think you can protect him?” His voice was mocking, his lips pulled wildly.

I glanced at Silas.

His face was pale, his breaths coming shallow. He needed help, and I couldn’t do it alone. I knew that much, but where was I supposed to get the help I needed?

These men weren’t here to help. They were here to finish what Ethan had started. And I didn’t think they were going to stop until they did that.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to look at them. “You don’t have to do this,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

Mon,

“Just let us go. He’s already–down–there’s no point in killing him

But these men were part of a rival mafia, We had lied to their leader and his body was lying right in front of them.

What were the chances that they were going to let us go?

Zero.

But hey, I could only hope. But that hope got destroyed the next minute.

The man threw his head back and laughed. It felt like I had told a funny joke and the rest of them laughed along.

“You must be the girl Ethan was raving about. Pretty thing.” He took a step closer, and I instinctively shifted, placing my body between them and Silas.

No matter what, he couldn’t touch Silas. I wouldn’t let him.

“Don’t touch him,” I hissed. My hands were trembling, but I didn’t care.

I didn’t care about anything else except for Silax at this moment.

Another man stepped forward, shaking his head. “Just kill her too. She’s nothing but a loose end.”

My blood ran cold and I clenched my fists, trying to stop the panic rising in my chest.

Panicking would only take me to my death. It would do nothing to save him right now.

I didn’t know how to fight them off, and Silas was too weak to protect me.

As they advanced, a sudden groan escaped Silas’s lips. My head whipped down to look at him. His eyes fluttered open for a brief moment, and they were unfocused.

“Silas?” I whispered, holding his face up so he could look at me.

“Run,” he murmured, so faint I almost didn’t hear it

“Don’t worry about me and just run,” he repeated, trying to push himself off my body.

Run? How could I leave him? My stomach twisted painfully, but the men weren’t going to wait for me to decide.

The looks on their faces told me all I needed to know.

“Enough! I don’t have the time for this tragic movie,” The scarred man barked. “Kill them both.”

An order that sent chills down my spine.

Before I could react, one of the men grabbed my arm and yanked me away from Silas. His fingers wrapped around my arm painfully.

I screamed, thrashing against his grip, but he was too strong. His nails dug into my skin as he pulled me away from Silas.

“Silas!” I cried out as another man bent down toward him. My heart shattered at the sight–Silas, helpless, bleeding, vulnerable.

This was all my fault. He came here to save me and he was dying

I wasn’t going to let them hurt him. Not again. Not while I was still breathing.

Summoning every ounce of strength I had, which wasn’t much.

I kicked hard at the man holding me, my leg going hard between his legs. He stumbled back with a curse, loosening his grip just enough for me to twist free.

Here it was! A chance.

Without thinking, I lunged for the gun lying on the floor. My fingers wrapped around the cold metal just as one of the men reached me.

“Stay back!” I shouted, aiming the gun at him. My hands were shaking so much I wasn’t sure I could shoot, but I didn’t care.

“Don’t come any closer!” I cocked the gun as I pointed it at them my finger ready to pull the trigger.

The men hesitated, their eyes flicking between me and the gun. For a moment, I thought they might back off. But then the scarred man sneered, pulling out his weapon.

He had a gun as well and my face paled. Why did I ever think I could pull something like this off?

For a moment my hand faltered. But when I heard Silas groan once more, my resolve steeled.

I would be the one leaving this room alive.

“You won’t shoot,” he said, his voice dripping with confidence. “You don’t have the guts.”

I don’t have the guts. He was wrong. I had the will to leave here alive, and I was going to.

Before he could lift his gun, I pulled the trigger. The recoil jolted through me, the sound deafening in the room. The scarred man’s eyes widened in shock before he crumpled to the floor.

He didn’t have the time to process anything that had happened.

I didn’t stop to think. The other men lunged at me, but I fired again, and again. Each shot rang in my ears, each one aimed to protect Silas.

When the last man fell, the gun slipped from my hands. My entire body was shaking, my breaths coming in ragged gasps. The room was filled with dead men, each of them having a bullet wound in their body.

I stumbled back to Silas, collapsing beside him. His wound seemed to have opened up while he got moved and his skin was cold to the touch.

“It’s okay,” I whispered, my voice breaking, “They’re gone now. You’re safe.”

But he didn’t respond. His eyes were closed again, his breathing shallow.

His face had paled up and it seemed as if he slipped away from me ‘slowly.

Tears streamed down my face as I pressed harder against his wound. “Help!” I screamed again, my voice hoarse. “Somebody, please!”

For the first time, I realized how utterly alone we were. I didn’t know if anyone was coming. I didn’t know if I could save him.

But I wasn’t going to give up. Not now. Not ever.

Just at the moment, I thought it was over, a voice came from behind me. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

“Katrina?”
