Chapter 267
The gatherings of four often left someone feeling like an odd one out, burdened with a heavy heart. Ursula and Jocelyn could chat away with ease, but the two men hadn't exchanged a single word. As the food was served, Ursula suddenly clutched her mouth, heaving as if she might retch.
"What's wrong?" Jocelyn quickly asked.
Harrison also looked at Ursula with concern. "What's the matter?"
"It's nothing, just a whiff of something made me feel sick," Ursula breathed deeply, but the sight of the roast chicken at the center of the table made her gag again.
She turned and bolted from the room, her hand covering her mouth. Jocelyn followed swiftly, "I'll check on her."
Harrison looked worried, while Melvin remained cool as a cucumber.
In the restroom, Ursula was gagging, her face ashen.
"You're not... pregnant, are you?"
It was the first thought came to Jocelyn's mind.
Ursula froze.
Jocelyn frowned, "When was your last period?"
Ursula's eyes widened in disbelief before dropping to her stomach. "I, I..."
"Uh-huh?" Jocelyn's voice held a hint of excitement. "Are you?"
Ursula opened her mouth, but couldn't utter anything.
"Your hesitation shows its possibility." Jocelyn clapped her back with a smile. "Look at you two, that honeymoon really did the trick. Let's go get some food and then head straight to the hospital."
Ursula took a deep breath, still not quite sure. "It can't be that coincidental, can it?"
"Odds are in your favor." Jocelyn helped her out of the restroom, grinning. "Harrison will be over the moon if you're pregnant."
At the mention of Harrison, Ursula's smile faded slightly. She wasn't sure if Harrison would indeed be happy about it.
"Let's not tell him yet. I want to get checked out first, then I'll tell him. Otherwise, it'll be awkward." Ursula was cautious.
"Planning a surprise?" Jocelyn chuckled.
Ursula just wanted to know if Harrison was truly looking forward to the arrival of the child-if there was a child. She couldn't say this to Jocelyn, so she just smiled, letting it pass as agreement.
Back at the table, Harrison's worried gaze met Ursula. "Are you okay?"
"Just a bit under the weather; my stomach feels off," Ursula avoided looking at the chicken soup.
Jocelyn, ever so considerate, moved the chicken soup aside, keeping it well away from Ursula.
Seeing Ursula was alright, Harrison finally relaxed.
After dinner, the two couples went their separate ways, exiting the restaurant.
After bidding their farewell, Jocelyn and Melvin got into their car.
She buckled up and asked Melvin, "What did you and Harrison talk about?"This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
"How do you know I talked to him?" Melvin retorted.
"You can't be just sitting there in silence?" Jocelyn was skeptical.
Melvin snorted, recalling the conversation with Harrison after Jocelyn and Ursula had left for the restroom.
Harrison was the first to speak, offering a simple "Congratulations."
Melvin accepted graciously, "Thanks."
"I'm surprised Jocelyn chose to stay with you. Even more surprised that after two years, you still managed to marry her," Harrison was blunt. Melvin watched him quietly, "Sounds like you're a bit sore about it."
"I just can't fathom how her feelings for you run so deep that she can overlook everything you've done," Harrison admitted his bitterness. They had been happy together, seemingly a perfect match, so why couldn't she spare a sliver of affection for him? She could always forgive Melvin, wait for him, even after being hurt, she chose him without a second thought.
Why?
What was so special about him?
And where did he, Harrison fall short?
Melvin leaned back, touching the ring on his finger, a slight smile playing on his lips, "Even if she didn't choose me, she wouldn't choose you." That hit Harrison hard.
He wasn't any less than Melvin. It was just that Jocelyn never gave him any chance.
"Harrison, no matter how you
feel
now, Jocelyn is my wife, and Ursula is your wife.. So whatever you
think~~
of my wife, please considerin
own wife's feelings," Melvin's emphasis on "my wife" and "your wife" left Harrison speechless.
Yes, both Jocelyn and he had their spouses. Some thoughts were forbidden.
Melvin knew Harrison had a soft spot for Jocelyn. Had it not been for his marriage to Ursula, he might have tried to wedge himself into their lives.
But Melvin wasn't worried. He knew very well Jocelyn only loved him. That was the confidence Jocelyn gave him.
"What are you smirking about?" Jocelyn caught Melvin's self-amused smile, curious and slightly proud.
Melvin tapped the steering wheel lightly, "Just happy."
"What's got you so happy?" Jocelyn turned towards him. "What did you really say to Harrison?"
"What could I say? Besides, what do I have to talk to him about?" Melvin scoffed, "We're not exactly buddies."
Jocelyn eyed him suspiciously; something was off.
Once home, Jocelyn grabbed the gift Ursula had given her and headed upstairs.
"Hold on," Melvin called after her.
"What is it?"
"That pen, give it to me," Melvin reached out his hand.
Jocelyn glanced at the gift bag and narrowed her eyes, "It was a gift to me. Why should I give it to you?"
"It was their gift to us for our marriage Jocelyn. Doesn't that mean the gift is half mine too?" Melvin reached for the box holding the pen, "I'll take the pen, and you can have the bracelet."
Jocelyn rolled her eyes, "Hey, that pen is pink. You sure you want it?"
"I love pink." Clutching the pen box, Melvin strutted off to the study.
Jocelyn just shook her head in disbelief.
With the start of the school year looming, Jocelyn found herself bustling about once more.
Melvin was swamped too. After all, there was a hefty company to run, and with the new year celebrations over, it was time to buckle down and focus on business.
Zachary still hadn't managed to
cross the threshold of Yasmine's home, but he wasn't idle either, working on relocating his overseas company back to the states, which kept him quite occupied.
A couple of days ago, Castiel had phoned Jocelyn to say he was taking Hermia and Euston abroad.
Jocelyn knew they'd take good care of Euston, and naturally, she supported their decision.
Everything seemed to be falling back into place. Their encounter with Castiel's little family and then parting ways seemed like a distant dream.
Jocelyn hoped they were all doing well.
"Hermia's not been her best. Castiel took her abroad for treatment," Melvin mentioned, well-informed about Castiel's affairs.
"How did you know?" Jocelyn asked, puzzled since Castiel hadn't mentioned it to her.
Melvin handed her a document, "He transferred his company shares to me before he left."
Jocelyn walked over to take a look, surprised. "So his company is yours now?"
"It cost me a pretty penny. And to be frank, I wasn't that interested in his company." Melvin pulled Jocelyn down to sit on his lap, wrapping his arms
around her.
"Castiel is really devoted, isn't he?" Jocelyn mused.
Melvin snorted, "Devoted is a nice way to put it. If not, we'd call it foolish."
Jocelyn fixed her gaze on him, raising an eyebrow. "What about you, then?"
