Chapter 720
Chapter 720
"What does that have to do with me?" Hera asked coldly.
Neil was feeling torn. Bernard refused to answer his calls and did not want to see him. Thus, Neil decided to try his luck and ask Hera to help out. After all, Bernard was willing to listen to her.
But Neil never expected that Hera would be so cold.
"Mr. Bernard is devoted to you, Ms. Youngworth. Surely, you want him to have a better future, right?" Neil asked warmly.
"So?" Hera asked.
"When Mr. Killian Senior was still alive, Mr. Bernard was his favorite child. Before his death, he even left behind all his shares at Killian Corporation to Mr. Bernard. That means he intended to leave the company to him.
"Back then, Mr. Bernard was still quite young, so he couldn't manage the entire Killian family yet. Thus, Mr. Chad took over as the head of the family first.
"Now that Mr. Bernard has grown up, it's also about time for him to start managing the headquarters' affairs. Once Mr. Chad retires in a few years and hands over the position of the head of the family to him, Mr. Bernard will get used to the workload quickly."
Hera snorted. Bernard cared for none of that.
"Ms. Youngworth..."
"Why are you speaking to her?" Bernard's icy voice drifted through the doorway, interrupting Neil.
Neil looked back, having heard Bernard. "Mr. Killian."
"Get lost!" Bernard yelled.
Neil hesitated since he had not completed the task entrusted by Chad yet.
Since Neil did not leave, Bernard continued, "Do you want someone to drag you out?"
"My apologies for disturbing you. I'll leave now." Neil knew that Bernard was capable of carrying out his threat. It would be too embarrassing if that actually happened, so Neil left in resignation.
Once he arrived at the Killian residence, Chad called him to the study and asked, "How did it go?"
"Mr. Bernard is still angry. He's against returning to the headquarters," Neil replied. "I wanted to speak to Ms. Youngworth and ask her to help advise Mr. Bernard, but he kicked me out."
Chad took a deep drag of his cigar before slowly exhaling. The result was just as he expected. Bernard was still against the idea of returning to the Killian family.
"Mr. Chad, you should smoke less," Neil advised.
As Chad's closest confidant, he knew that Chad usually did not smoke cigars. He would only do so whenever he felt troubled. The more he smoked, the more stressed out he was.
"Maybe Mr. Bernard will listen to you if you personally seek him out and invite him to return," Neil advised. "After all, I'm not you."
"You can't even convince him, yet you want me to talk to him. Who will benefit from his return anyway?" Chad asked with a scowl.
"His terrible attitude is a result of him being too spoiled! So many shareholders are racking their brains to send their candidates to replace Rhett as CEO!Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
"But look at Bernard! He's putting on airs when we're inviting him to return. Who cares if he doesn't want to come back? Good riddance if he doesn't!"
"Mr. Chad, don't speak out of anger," Neil advised. He did not continue by saying that Chad would always end up
eating his words after saying things in anger.
Instead, Neil continued, "Mr. Bernard has always been like this. You know as well that he responds to kindness, not force. The more you argue with him, the more rebellious he becomes. Young people are usually very prideful.
"Instead, you should set aside your pride as the head of the family and speak to him as a compassionate elder brother. He'll definitely be touched."
Chad did not respond. He was always worried for Bernard. Chad even sent Bernard away to the military immediately so that he could get rid of his terrible attitude.
Chad thought that Bernard would improve after going through the discipline routines at the military. Instead, he only seemed to have gotten worse.
"Will that really work?" Chad was suspicious.
"That's how my wife communicates with my granddaughter," Neil explained, rendering Chad speechless.
